About this event

Are you a high school student who is thinking about life after you graduate? Join the Houston Area Urban League Young Professionals in partnership with Houston City Council District D, Phillips66, H-E-B and dozens of colleges/universities for our annual Young Professionals University (YPU), a college readiness and empowerment program to educate high school students on their options after school.

Students will be divided into 4 Groups and spend the day attending breakout sessions and a college fair to gain all the tools and resources to make an informed decision on the next steps for higher learning.

Participants will be provided Breakfast and Lunch, and will be eligible for raffle prizes that include electronics, gift cards and more! Must be an 8th grader or current high school student to sign up.

Frequently asked questions

What time should students arrive?

Students are asked to arrive no earlier than 9am to allow time for set up.

Are parents allow to attend?

Yes, parents and high school administrators are allowed to attend, however parents and other guardians are asked to remain in the auditorium as we do not have space in the classrooms for both students and parents. The classrooms and breakout sessions are for the students.

Will breakfast and lunch be provided for parents?

No, we are only providing breakfast and lunch for REGISTERED students. This program and funding is dedicated to high school students.

How will students be monitored to ensure safety?

Students will be divided into 4 groups and each group will be assigned 2-3 adult chaperones that will travel from session to session and lunch with the students throughout the day.

What if I have a dietary restriction or allergy.

We will have vegan/vegetarian options for both breakfast and lunch. Students will need to pay attention to food items to ensure they are not allergic.

What time should students be picked up?

Students who are being picked up will need to be picked up by a parent or guardian no later than 3:00pm.
